In exactly one week I will be getting on a plane headed to San Diego for SIGGRAPH 2007, and on August 6th and 7th will be participating in the first ever FJORG! Iron Animator Competition.
16 teams of three animators each will be competing in an animation event where we will be given a topic at the start of the first day, and have 32 hours to make a 15 second animation. Supposedly there will be staged distractions, and the whole siggraph attendance will be able to watch live video feeds of our monitors, to observe the process of making a short character animation in under 2 days.
There are plenty of really talented competitors, and I’m confident all the teams will have some amazing animations by the time it’s over. I can’t wait to get there, to animate, and to make plenty of new friends who all share the same passion.
If you’re at SIGGRAPH this year be sure to cheer us on. My team is “Team MoCap”, in light of our satire of motion capture technology in our short film/demo reel, aptly named: FJORG!
